Pharmacy First Service

Did you know, you can now access the Pharmacy First Service?

This is a new service which will enable community pharmacists to treat patients without the need for them to visit their GP surgery. This is alongside pharmacy blood pressure monitoring and contraception services. It will help patients to access quicker and more convenient care, including the supply of appropriate medicines for minor illness.

Your community pharmacist can now deal with the following conditions:

Clinical Issue Age Range Excluding Criteria
Acute ear infections1 to 17 years* Recurrent (3 or more episodes in 6 months or 4 or more episodes in 12 months)
* Pregnant individuals under 16 years old
Impetigo (non blistering)1 year and over* Blistering impetigo,
* Recurrent impetigo (2 or more episodes in 12 months),
* Pregnant individuals under 16 years old
Infected insect bites1 year and over* Pregnant individuals under 16 years old
Shingles18 years and over* Pregnant individuals
Sinusitis12 years and over* Immunosuppressed,
* Chronic sinusitis (symptoms more than 12 weeks),
* Pregnant individuals under 16 years old
Sore throat5 years and over* Pregnant individuals under 16 years old
Uncomplicated urinary tract infectionsWomen 16 – 64 years* Pregnant individuals,
* Urinary catheter,
* Recurrent UTI (2 episodes in last 6 months or 3 episodes in last 12 months)

There are some age restrictions, so they may direct you back to the GP if they are unable to deal with your medical query.
